Rachel Sossoman – President and CEO of Mercy Urgent Care
Rachel Sossoman is the President and CEO of Mercy Urgent Care, the market leader for Urgent Care in Western North Carolina. In addition to her responsibilities at Mercy, Rachel enjoys serving as an ambassador for the Urgent Care industry. She has been published in the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine and has presented at multiple conferences across the country on topics such as 21st century leadership, Urgent Care operations and key performance indicators and organizational culture. Rachel earned her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from North Carolina State University and her Master of Science in Human Resources (MSHR) from Western Carolina University, where she currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the Master of Science in Human Resources program. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP).
In addition to her leadership responsibilities at Mercy Urgent Care and Western Carolina University, Rachel actively serves on the Board of the Asheville Chamber of Commerce, the Asheville Symphony and is past President of the Board of the Western North Carolina Medical Managers Association. Rachel’s leadership and community involvement led to her 2022 designation as a Business North Carolina “Trailblazer” and her nomination in 2021 for the Asheville Chamber of Commerce’s “Woman Executive of the Year.”
Prior to her experience in Urgent Care, Rachel taught for nine years in NC public schools and was a 2001 recipient of the prestigious North Carolina Teaching Fellows Award. Whether through education, organization development, Urgent Care leadership or advocacy, Rachel’s passion has remained the same: unleashing potential. That passion underpins her desire to serve the greater industry as a member of the Urgent Care Association Board of Directors, where she hopes to continue efforts to solidify the Urgent Care industry in the greater healthcare ecosystem through concerted advocacy, established standards and ample resources for members.
