How accurate is the meteoblue model? ›

High accuracy of city climate models

Based on our existing verification studies, for our 24h forecast an accuracy of 1.2 °C hourly MAE for air temperature can be expected, based on our existing verifications.

meteoblue cloud forecast are delivered as aggregate forecast, in aggregate layers (low/medium/high) or in selected layers fit-to-purpose. Aggregate cloud layers are defined according to WMO as: low clouds: from the surface - 2 km (from the surface -2 km at equator) medium clouds: 2-7 km (2-8 km at equator)

Average winter temperature

The average temperature in the Netherlands during winter is 3,4C. Generally, this season experiences the least hours of sunshine, which also makes it the coldest season. From 1981-2010, the country experienced 197,3 hours of sunshine on average in winter, whilst 201,2mm of rain fell.

The European model, known as the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), is an independent intergovernmental organization regarded for having a better resolution than other medium and long-range global models.

For example, if the sky is 100% covered by clouds, it is a totally cloudy day. If the cloud cover is 25% — the day is more clear than cloudy. The cloud cover of 0% means it is a clear day with no visible clouds at all. So it is also called the percentage of the cloud coverage of the sky.

In meteorology, like all sciences, these basic terms have a specific definition: Cloudy: 90-100% sky covered. Mostly cloudy: 70-80% sky covered. Partly Cloudy/Partly Sunny: 30-60% sky covered. Mostly Clear/Mostly Sunny: 10-30% sky covered.

Noctilucent. Very thin cloud composed of water ice. These clouds are the highest clouds in the atmosphere, located in the mesosphere at an altitude of approximately 280,000ft. They are only visible when illuminated by light from below after the sun has gone below the horizon.

Climate. Nijmegen has an oceanic climate (Cfb). It is one of the warmest cities of the Netherlands, especially during summer, when the highest temperatures in the country are usually measured in the triangle Roermond–Nijmegen–Eindhoven.

The lowest temperature ever recorded in the Netherlands was −27.4 °C (−17.3 °F) on 27 January 1942 in Winterswijk. The highest wind gust ever recorded in the Netherlands was 173 km/h (107 mph) on 25 November 2005 in Hoek van Holland, and on 3 January 2012 in IJmuiden.

Traditional Dutch food is meat and potato or fish based for dinner and bread and cheese based for everything else. Beef stew and stamppot are two of the more common, hearty Dutch meals. Raw herring and other North Sea fishes are commonly consumed as well.

New on the scene: the HAFS model

HAFS, which became fully operational on June 27, is now the preferred option within the National Weather Service for high-resolution track and intensity forecasts, similar to the guidance long provided by HMON and HWRF.

Global models with worldwide weather forecasts

These models are all generally fairly accurate in predicting large scale patterns/features, but all will become less accurate through time. The ECMWF is generally considered to be the most accurate global model, with the US's GFS slightly behind.

GFS is trying to get better. Also to increase your confidence: both models also works with general accuracy of 95–96% for up to 12 hours, 85–95% for three days, and 65–80% for 10 days.

Today the accuracy is around 97%. The biggest improvements we've seen are for longer timeframes. By the early 2000s, 5-day forecasts were “highly accurate” and 7-day forecasts are reaching that threshold today. 10-day forecasts aren't quite there yet but are getting better.
