SCP - 001 "When Day Breaks" (2024)

SCP-001 is the designation given to the Sun, after an event on [SYSTEM ERROR] Data lost: ec172. Contact SysAdmin. resulting in ~6.8 billion casualties within the first twenty-four hours. This event has been categorized as an XK-Δ-Class "Solar Singularity" Scenario. Upon contact with visible light produced by the sun, living organisms liquefy at the point of contact, with the effect spreading until the entire organism is converted. Visually, this is reminiscent of melting wax. The time this takes is largely dependent on the level of exposure and size of the organism. Despite this restructuring, at no point do living organisms perish.

Description

SCP-001 — specifically S.D. Locke's "When Day Breaks" proposal — is an Apollyon-class event-only SCP, introduced in the Daybreak Update.

SCP-001 itself is the Sun, which - when undergoing a specific anomalous event, turns completely red, transforming all lifeforms its light touches, into hostile flesh monsters. In-game, these are player controlled, and are known as SCP-001-A instances.

The event which triggers SCP-001, being the Daybreak Event, can be purchased for 2,000 credits at NPC Shops, or for 1,000 Robux, making it more expensive than the Nuclear Warhead.

Additionally, it can also be activated through the :daybreak moderator command in Custom Servers.

Daybreak Event[]

SCP - 001 "When Day Breaks" (1)

Upon purchasing the event, an announcement will play, warning everyone to get to the Nuclear/Breach Shelter immediately. A one-minute countdown will then begin, with dramatic music playing in the background.

The sun and outside atmosphere will also gradually turn more and more red over the course of the minute, eventually ending in the sky turning blood red, with red particles beginning to float throughout the air.

Upon the countdown concluding, there's a priority system for selecting infected:

  • Any players that are in the Outside Sector will instantly be infected;
  • If none are outside, up to three Chaos Insurgents in the cave/vent system will be selected;
  • If no Chaos Insurgents are present, three Class - D will be selected;
  • If none of the above requirements are met, three Foundation personnel will be selected.

After the infected are chosen, a countdown will again appear on the left, with the event lasting for four minutes. Foundation personnel that are killed in any way - be it resetting or dying to others - will become an SCP-001-A instance for the rest of the event.

Additionally, the facility will be consumed by a dark red atmosphere and the aforementioned floating red particles, with all monitors and the lights being disabled.

At the end of the countdown, the event concludes. A status screen akin to that at the end of the Nuclear Warhead event will show, stating who survived and who was consumed by SCP-001. Players will also gain 10 XP and 25 Credits if they survived.

The Infected[]

All SCP-001-A instances have highly increased health compared to a normal player, at 350, with them spawning in five possible locations:

  • Outside of the airlock which leads to the Outside Sector;
  • Far end of Sector-3, near SCP-096's chamber;
  • Sector-3's storage closet;
  • Far end of the Shooting Range;
  • Ending hallway in the Medical Sector.

Additionally, all SCP-001-A instances will uniquely be granted an O5 Keycard, allowing them to access all parts of the facility, preventing players from staying in restricted areas.

Infecting other players is similar to SCP-008 and SCP-409 infected players, having to come into contact with them for a few seconds to fully infect them. Upon the meter reaching 100%, the player will automatically die, and respawn at the aforementioned hallway as an SCP-001-A instance.

Additionally, Beta-7 "Maz Hatters" operatives take longer to infect, just like other infection-based SCPs, however they do not do more damage towards SCP-001-A instances.

Lastly, SCP-001-A instances have a player scanner, which automatically activates roughly every five seconds. If someone is within this radius, the instance will receive a notification that there is a player nearby.

Tips:[]

  • Hiding: If you are not in a combatant team or don't have a gun, it's usually recommended to hide in the fallout bunker.
  • Squads: Always go in squads, or you might find yourself cornered and out of ammo.
  • Backstabbers: Always mind your backs, let at least two or three people guard the back of your squad, or soon your entire squad might be infected.
  • Ammo/Reloading: Try to reload when there is no infected nearby; you don't want to be caught mid-reload.
  • Sighting: It's recommended to use your Night Vision Goggles, green is mostly recommended since it helps see better, red goggles makes it slightly harder to see despite the red siren lights.
  • Defending: Try to let at least five armed personnel stay near the bunker, the more infected, the worse.
  • Backup weapons: Before the event, try buying a backup weapon, which can include: SCAR-H, SPAS-12, Glock-17, and Kriss Vector.

Trivia[]

  • For a few minutes after the update's release, the event was bugged, in which purchasing it with credits would result in nothing happening. This was fixed almost immediately afterwards.
    • It's unknown if players got a refund for purchasing the event in its bugged state.
  • SCP-001 is the first Apollyon-class SCP to be added to SCP: Roleplay.
    • Additionally, it's the first event-only SCP.
  • The :god moderator command will not prevent players from being infected.
  • Despite saying to hide in the Nuclear/Breach Shelter, players may hide wherever they want in the facility (excluding the Outside Sector).
    • Because of this, it's actually recommended to hide somewhere more obscure, such as within an SCP's containment chamber or other locations they'd be unlikely to check.
      • As of the Winter 2023 Update, hiding in Sector-3 is no longer recommended, as SCP-001-A instances can now spawn at the back and near the front of Sector-3.
    • The Chaos Insurgency Engineer spawn is the only normal spot in the facility that can't be reached by infected.
      • Technically, players can glitch out of the map to avoid infected, however this falls under malicious glitching, which can result in punishment. Exploiting to get out of the map will also result in a permanent ban.
    • Combining all of that, alongside the fact that normally do not gain extra speed, the Daybreak Event is generally considered to be unfair for the infected.
      • However, if a player is a Rapid Response Team operative before becoming an SCP-001-A instance, they'll retain their extra speed, making it generally the best team to be infected on, as no other team perks matter for SCP-001-A instances.
  • There is a custom morph that can be accessed through moderator commands, more specifically :morph <user> 001.
    • This will not only change their appearance to that of an SCP-001-A instance, but also give them the same abilities/effects of one, such as the player scanner.
  • SCP-001-A instances do not have their own rank tag, instead using the one of the team they became an infected on, though this may change in the future.

Bugs[]

  • There's occasionally a large amount of lag when spawning in as an SCP-001-A instance, likely due to the game having to instantly load the Outside Sector and everything around it.
  • When spawning as Beta-7 "Maz Hatters" and becoming an SCP-001-A instance, other infected will still be highlighted due to infection detection.
  • When a player is turned into an SCP-001-A instance, they are unable to do emotes - though this may be intentional, due to the different animations the instances use.
    • This does not apply to the chat emotes, such as /e dance or /e wave.
