My favourite 15 breakfast places in Prague for 2024, including opening times, locations, prices for all budgets and sample menus.
The traditional Czech breakfast, which most people ate at home, is a piece of bread or roll with butter and cheese or scrambled eggs with a piece of buttered bread or a thin hot dog with mustard and bread. Since this wouldn’t really make a great offering at the cafes, the modern Czech breakfast is a much lighter version than what most people would eat at home. It includes less meat, fresh fruit, garnish and different twists on traditional open-bread sandwich, omelettes or oat porridge.
The contemporary breakfast offerings are also often influenced by other countries, so you’ll find freshly baked croissants, danish pastries, buttermilk pancakes, waffles, poached eggs with ham or smoked salmon, smoothie or porridge bowls with fruits and seeds, hot oatmeal with honey, granola & yoghurt, breakfast smoothies, thick yoghurt with jam, breakfast cereals and anything else you can think off!
The good thing is that now, when you visit Prague, there is such a good choice of different breakfast foods, that no matter what you like you should be able to find the perfect breakfast for you! I’ve included 15 of my favourite breakfast places that I regularly go to and I hope you enjoy them too!
Eating out breakfast in Prague
Since most people are still used to having their breakfast at home, there are no ‘greasy spoons’ kind of cafes that would open at 5 or 6 am to cook a hearty breakfast for people before they go to work. The equivalent of a Czech basic eatery would be the self-service canteens that workers go to have lunch or eat before they go to work.
You won’t really find a ‘breakfast menu’ there, but if you are hungry, you can have a goulash for breakfast! Basically, these canteens are open from 6 or 7 am and serve immediately what we would consider the ‘lunch menu’. You can still have a cheap coffee and often make breakfast from different dishes – as there are usually some sort of sausages on menu, potatoes or sometimes omelettes. If you have a sweet tooth, pancakes or fruit dumplings are served as ‘pudding’ but at a push, they could be a really good breakfast option.
Breakfast serving times
Most cafes are open from 8 or 9 am as going out for regular breakfast (or eating out breakfast) is not a thing for most Czech people and when we do it’s usually a special occasion or get together with your friends, who would have the day off anyway.
There is also no such a thing as ‘all-day breakfast’ – most places stop serving breakfasts by 11.30 or midday at the latest. Some places have longer breakfast hours at the weekend as people are coming around the idea of a ‘brunch’ on their day off.
I’ve given you the exact opening hours for each cafe so that you can plan your day more precisely.
Bookings
Breakfast is still a very casual thing, and there is no need to book, just turn up. Some popular places might be busy, so it’s worth either having a backup second choice ready, arrive super early or be prepared to wait.
Bakeshop
This is a lovely upmarket bakery in the quirky streets behind the Old Town Square, baking delicious breakfast pastries, bread and cakes.
The breakfast works slightly differently here – you can pick anything from the menu (eggs, bacon, ham, tomatoes, mushrooms, cheese, roasted potatoes, onion or spinach) and the end price is calculated based on weight (75 CKZ for 100 grams).
In my experience this works out about the same as if you had a set menu somewhere else (slightly upmarket), so budget about 150-200 CZK per person for a large breakfast. All hot breakfast is served with homemade sourdough bread and butter.
Apart from the traditional breakfasts, Bakeshop also does amazing breakfast smoothies (from 130 CZK).
Hot breakfast is served every day including weekends from 7 am to 3 pm and you can have a fresh pastry any time as they are baked on the premises.
Art Deco Hotel Imperial
This is definitely one of my favourite places for breakfast since it’s hard to beat on quality, atmosphere and price. I’ve enjoyed here breakfast many times and it’s always been such a great experience.
The main breakfast butter is 375 CKZ and includes several large tables full of breakfast goodies to choose from (hot savoury dishes, pastries, granola, fruit, yoghurt and lots more). You can also choose from individual breakfast items, such as hard-boiled eggs with horseradish and butter (150 CZK), French Breakfast (185 CZK) or various filled omelettes (from 160 CZK).
Breakfast is served every day including weekends from 7 am – 10.30. Because this place is super popular, it’s always a good idea to arrive early, especially at the weekend.
Cafe Louvre
Location: Národní 22, 110 00Nové Město
If you want to experience the traditional Czech breakfast (with no modern twists), then Cafe Louvre is the place to go!
This historic café has been a popular stop since the First Republic in the 20s and 30s of the 20th century, and the decor and style are still kept very much in the 30s style.
The classic Czech breakfast menu has very reasonable prices and I always order a few different dishes to make up my breakfast (such as scrambled eggs), although you can also order set menus from 100 CZK. The popular pancakes with raspberry sauce and sour cream are 130 CZ and you can even have a breakfast beef goulash with onion if you like for 150CZK!
Breakfast is served between 8-11 am every day.
Mysak
Location: 710/31, Vodičkova, Nové Město, 110 00 Praha
Whilst I normally think about Mysak as a sweet patisserie place, they also make simple egg or sausage-based breakfasts during the week, starting from 125 CZK.
Mysak is one of the historic sweet pastry shops started back in 1911 and the building itself is a great example of a cubist-style building in Prague. It was started by Frantisek Mysak, who was famous for his orange biscuits, special vanilla ice cream with caramel topping and for inventing cinema sweets with wrapping from a natural material that didn’t rustle during the film shows.
Breakfast is served Monday to Friday from 8 am to 2 pm only.
Cafe Savoy
Location: Vítězná 124/5, Malá Strana, 150 00Praha-Smíchov
This cafe place is perfect for a special occasion, because of its lovely interior and (for me) because of the prices too.
The French set breakfast (500CZK) is very special and includes croissants filled with scrambled eggs, truffles and sausages, but you can also have the Continental set breakfast (200 CZK) or full English Breakfast (425CZK). You can also have eggs done in about ten different ways (starting from 180CZK), special Savoy frankfurters or even oysters!
Breakfast is served during weekdays from 8 am to 11.30 am and from 9am – 4 pm at the weekends.
Kavarna Mezi Radky
Location: Štefánikova 278/40, 150 00 Praha 5-Smíchov and also U Radnice 1, 110 00 Josefov – side of the main town hall at the Marianske Square close to Old Town Square
If I want a more traditional, but delicious Czech breakfast, I always head to Kavarna Mezi Radky (Coffee Place in between the lines), which supports people with learning and physical disabilities by providing them with employment and also doing a lot of fundraising on their behalf. Your breakfast will taste even better, knowing that you are supporting a good cause!
I’ve always enjoyed my breakfast there, and my purse liked it too! The breakfast menu is simple and starts from 110 CZ, The most expensive breakfast menu is 130 CZK, which includes 3 sausages, 2 scrambled eggs, beans and freshly baked bread.
Breakfast is served from 8 am til lunchtime – about 11. 30 – weekdays only (closed at weekends).
Kafe no. 22
Location: Lidicka 22, Smíchov, 150 00 Praha 5
This is another great cafe hidden in Smichov and I go there quite often for breakfast or lunch. The food is delicious and the cafe style is simple but cosy. You can have the big English Breakfast (190 CZK) or if you fancy, something smaller egg omelette with spinach and sun-dried tomatoes (160CZK).
The cafe also serves open sandwiches for breakfast with various toppings such as smoked salmon, poached egg and avocado (190CZK). I can also never resist the baked oat porridge with cinnamon, salted caramel and fresh fruit topped with whipped cream (160 CZK) – it’s like having a pudding for breakfast!
Breakfast is served from 8 am til noon every day including the weekends. The cafe is compact, but there is no need to book.
Kavarna ktera hleda jmeno
Location: Stroupežnického 493/10, 150 00 Praha 5-Smíchov
This is a great hipster place tucked away from the main area of Smichov in the old industrial building. People come here for their famous breakfast egg benedict, homemade bread and delicious cakes.
In peak times, this place gets super busy with fairly long waiting times, so I always make sure I go during weekdays. Most savoury breakfast dishes cost between 175 CZK – 185 CZK and the breakfast spelt porridge with plums and almonds is 145 CZK.
Breakfast is served from 8 am till noon 12 during weekdays and from 9 am til 3 pm during weekends.
Spizirna 1902
Location: Korunní 86, Vinohrady, Prague 2
The breakfast menu at Spizirna 1902 looks so good that I could just start from the top and eat practically everything. There are various versions of egg served with spinach (180CZK), or with cheese, and sundried tomatoes (195CZK). You can also have egg benedict with smoked salmon (255 CZK).
My favourite second breakfast course is the sour cherry pancakes with chocolate spread and cream cheese (235 CZK) or homemade granola with vanilla cream cheese, plum sauce and walnuts (200 CZK).
Breakfast is served from 8 am – 11.15 on weekdays and from 9 am – 4 pm on weekends.
Eska
Location: Pernerova 49, Karlín, 186 00, Prague8
This modern open-space coffee place in a trendy Karlín is also owned by the Ambiente company (they also own the Savoy and other restaurants). This means that the food is great, and innovative and the traditional Czech cuisine is served with a modern twist.
If you feel like trying something non-traditional, order the Eska breakfast with fermented wheat, mushrooms, vegetables and eggs served on sourdough bread, followed by a traditional cake (buchta) and fermented lemonade. I also liked the granola with yoghurt and walnut butter topped with fruit. The bread and pastries are freshly baked on the premises and you’ll struggle to find better ones in the rest of Prague!
All this deliciousness comes at a price, but since Eska is not in the tourist area, you’ll find that the prices are still no more than the regular restaurants around Old Town Square. The Eska breakfast is 375 CZK and smaller dishes start from 170-195 CZK.

Kavarna Slagr
Location: Francouzská 72, 101 00 Praha 10-Vinohrady
This is totally my favourite place that’s still a bit of a secret hidden gem, although it’s been there for a long time. This is a First Republic-themed coffee place set out in the 1920s style, including the decor, furniture and background music.
The breakfast menu has traditional Czech food (various eggs, sausages, bread etc) and starts from 80 CZK with the largest menu combination for 140 CZK. I’ve always had a great breakfast there, no matter what I’ve tasted, including freshly baked pastries. The cafe also makes their own cakes, which are delicious!
Breakfast is served every day from 9 am till 3 pm.
Mezi Srnky
Location: Sázavská 19, 120 00Vinohrady and Arbesovo Namesti 257/7, Prague 5 – Smichov
This small bistro in Vinohrady will be appreciated mainly by lovers of simple yet imaginative cuisine. The breakfast menu is based on fresh and seasonal ingredients and includes different types of eggs served on sourdough bread from an artisan bakery, cinnamon pancakes with plum jam with amaretto. The pancakes with fruit sauce, bacon, and maple syrup are a must-try here!
I really like the simple decor style in both of the locations and the food looks and tastes delicious! I usually pop into the Smichov branch since it’s closer to where I live. The full breakfast starts from 140 CZ and the savoury pancakes are 160 CZK.
Breakfast is served from 7.30 am till 4 pm all week (including weekends).
Coffee Corner Bakery
Location: Korunní 1342/96, 101 00Prague 2 – Vinohrady and also newly opened second location at Machova 22, Prague 2 – Vinohrady (close to the Grebovka Park)
This is a super cosy café with lovely decor, friendly staff and incredible food. The egg benedict with Prague ham is delicious and so are the breakfast smoothie bowls with fresh fruit and coconut milk. You can also have pancakes with homemade cheese yoghurt or oatmeal with coconut milk and apples. Prices start from 95 CZK to 275 CZK.
Breakfast is served from 8 am during weekdays and from 9 am at the weekend.
Kafe & Hrnky
Location: Nerudova 25, Lesser Town, Prague 1
This is a perfect combination of a laid-back coffee place with an art vibe and pottery in particular. The cafe space is fairly new (about 3 years old), but the pottery style (or a brand if you like…) called ‘Mariz’ is something that’s been around since the 90s. You can paint your own mug or plate upstairs in the pottery workshop, whilst downstairs is a cosy and spacious cafe, including a hidden outdoor courtyard space.
The breakfast menu is simple and includes scrambled eggs with bread (130CZK), Irish Breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausages, beans, tomato, bread) 185 CZK, open sandwiches or pancakes with apples, walnuts and caramel (160CZK).
There is also a choice of pastries and homemade cakes and really good coffee. If you decide to walk up to Prague Castle, then this place is perfect for a breakfast stop before you walk the rest (as it’s nearly at the top of Nerudova Street).
Breakfast is served from 9 am til 5 pm.
The Flat cafe
Location: Kodaňská 81/4, 101 00 Praha 10-Vršovice
If you are missing your full English Breakfast, then you can’t go wrong with visiting the FLAT cafe in Prague 10 – Vrsovice (tram no. 22 will take you directly from the centre there).
Every time I visit the FLAT café, I feel like I’m back in London. The cafe has the vibe of a slightly eccentric but cosy London apartment and it’s decorated with pretty wallpaper, old furniture, comfortable chairs, and a large portrait of Elizabeth II. The owners of this café really come from Britain, so the menu is influenced by traditional British food. My favourite bit includes the large wardrobe, which doesn’t lead to the Narnia, but to absolutely beautiful and spacious toilets.
English Breakfast starts from 245 CZK, omelette 180 CZ and egg benedict 205 CZK. You can also have blueberry pancakes for 195 CZK.
Breakfast is served from 8.30 am during weekdays and from 9 am til 2 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
